On 7 December 2023, Mohammad Jawid Amani, founder of Change Makers of the World, attended the Youth Carnegie Peace Prize 2023 ceremony at the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, after being selected as one of the top finalists for the prize.
The ceremony took place in the Great Hall of Justice, the courtroom of the International Court of Justice. More than 120 students, diplomats, representatives of international organizations, and other guests attended the ceremony. Amani attended upon invitation from J.P.H. Donner, Chairman of the Board of the Carnegie Foundation.
During the ceremony, the work of Change Makers of the World and the National Youth Consensus for Peace was presented on the screens of the Great Hall of Justice, bringing the initiatives and their work in Afghanistan before an international audience.
The finalist certificate recognized Amani’s work as a young peacebuilder and specifically highlighted “Change Makers of the World & National Youth Consensus for Peace” for creating space for younger generations to contribute to peace.
The recognition reflects years of work by Amani and the wider team in youth empowerment, peacebuilding, education, and human rights in Afghanistan, including efforts to strengthen the participation of Afghan youth in the peace process.
The Youth Carnegie Peace Prize is awarded every two years by the Carnegie Foundation, which owns and manages the Peace Palace, together with the Youth Peace Initiative. It recognizes young peacebuilders and youth-led initiatives, brings attention to their work, and encourages other young people to develop their own peace initiatives.
Being selected as a top finalist brought the work of Change Makers of the World and the National Youth Consensus for Peace from Afghanistan to the Peace Palace, one of the world’s most recognized institutions associated with international peace and justice.
